Nicky is a general cardiologist in Auckland and an Associate Professor at the University of Auckland. Her specialist interest is in heart imaging, specifically MRI and echocardiography. Her research interests include heart valve disease as well as looking at the effects of other diseases such as kidney disease on the heart.
Dr Nicky Edwards' Background
Nicky was trained in the UK; qualified in 1999, completing general medical training until 2003 and then specialist cardiology training until 2014. This time included a one-year Cardiac Imaging Fellowship here in Auckland, two years as a clinical lecturer at the University of Birmingham and three years of dedicated research with heart imaging techniques (leading to the award of British Cardiac Society Young Investigator of the Year in 2009) and a PhD from the University of Birmingham (UK) in 2011.
She worked as a cardiologist for three years in one of the UK’s largest hospitals before emigrating to NZ with her family in July 2018. She has worked at Auckland District Health Board for the past 2 years as a full time cardiologist and last year became Director of Echocardiography.
